Descendants of John George Williams
Generation No. 1
1. JOHN GEORGE1 WILLIAMS1 was
born Abt. 1828 in London, England2, and died Unknown. He married LYDIA MARYA ACKERMAN3,4 Bef. 1860.
She was born 1840 in Hackensack, NJ4, and died
Unknown.
Notes for JOHN GEORGE WILLIAMS:
According to tax
records from Morgan Co. Georgia, it appears that John G. Williams entered
Morgan Co. in either 1871 or 1872 and left probably around 1883.
Notes on materials
from Dorothy Cotton: two different
years of birth are listed, 1820 and 1828.
What appears to have been written originally was 1828 and was then
mis-written at some point. This also
fits in with the age that John Williams gave on the 1880 census that would have
placed him as born between 1827-1828.
His place of birth on everything that was sent was "London,
England", quite different from what he said on the 1880 census from
Georgia (he said New York). They say he
owned a plantation in Georgia and is said to be a descendant of Oliver
Cromwell. One note of Jessie's says
"John Geo Williams (Proffessor) from England".

Children of JOHN WILLIAMS and LYDIA ACKERMAN are:

Notes for HARRY WILLIAMS:
Dad talked to his uncle
Harry and Harry said that AC had a brother named George. There was also possibly another brother
named Arthur, but he could have been Kate's brother. Harry also thought there was a brother named Harry that he was
named after.
According to the tax
records from 1883 in Morgan Co., Georgia, there was a Henry A. Williams listed
with a George A. Williams and a John G. Williams. The archivist pointed out that there was a good possibility that
Harry was Henry A. Williams.

Notes for ALFRED CHARLES WILLIAMS:
Listed his occupation
on AC Jr.'s birth cert. as "Locomotive Eng."
Dad says AC Sr's
nickname was Ace. Judge Hall says that
his nickname was Al.
was a member of Mo/The? "Brotherhood Locomotive
Engineers"
Talked to dad on
1/27/99, who talked to harry Jr. and said, "the whole family might have
moved between 1895 and 1905, maybe because the whole family was black sheep
instead of just AC sr.
What
I do know about Alfred is from a newspaper article my father found (not dated,
although probably written in 1953 by Margaret Shemwell and probably for a
Doniphan, Missouri or Naylor, Missouri newspaper) “Mo-Pac’s Veteran Engineer
Retires Ending 53-year Railroading Career”
In 1885 at the age of 15, Alfred joined the Tecumseh
Airline Railroad as a brakeman on the line between Tecumseh and Shawnee
Oklahoma. Between then and 1898 he
worked as a brakeman on the Choctaw-Oklahoma and Gulf Railroad. In 1898 he was promoted to fireman on the
Missouri, Kansas and Texas line out of Denison, Texas.
In 1899 he was injured in a train wreck in Sadler, Texas and was in the
hospital for four months. Sometime
between 1899 and 1905 he worked as a fireman out of Little Rock and over the
Missouri Pacific Line. In 1905 (at 25) he was promoted to engineer and was (by
his telling) the youngest engineer on the Missouri Pacific in those days.
In 1907, Alfred married Kate Carson in her hometown
of Wynne, (Cross Co.) Arkansas. Her
parents were Joseph Carson and Lizzie or Ella Jones (unsure of exact name).
On July 2, 1914, Alfred and Kate had their first
son, my grandfather, Alfred Charles Williams, Jr. He was born in Texarkana, Arkansas where my great grandparents
were residing at the time.
In 1921, Alfred and Kate had their second son, Harry
Lloyd Williams, Sr.
Before 1923, Alfred made note in the article that he
and Kate had homes in Wynne (Cross Co.), Arkansas; Helena (Phillips Co.),
Arkansas; Paragould (Greene Co.), Arkansas; Gurdon (Clark Co.), Arkansas; and
Texarkana (Miller Co.), Arkansas. The
article didn’t list any information as to the chronology of those addresses.
In March of 1923, Engineer Williams was assigned the
Doniphan-Neelyville branch and bought a 344 acre farm home on Route One in
Doniphan, Missouri.
He worked on the railroad for Missouri Pacific a
total of 53 years and eight months at his retirement (one month before the
article was published).
Alfred Charles Williams died on May 20, 1966 at home in Doniphan, Missouri.

Notes for KATE CARSON:
Dad says that his
grandmother Kate was born in Moark or Mo Ark Arkansas, but the Ponder family
book has her listed as Wynne. Grandad
AC Jr. birth certificate says Moark, Ark. So, that's what I'm going to use for
now.
When Kate Died, there
were two pastors -- one was a Harold Williams from St. Louis. Other was Bud Wilkens from Doniphan (came
from funeral home) She was the 25th death in 1955 and 294th for the history of
Edward's Funeral Home
